Why Are We Here Today?
The Resurrection Should Not Have Been A Surprise
Mark 8:31 (Mark 9:31, Mark 10:33-34)
And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke this word openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
The Disciples Were Not Ready To See It
There Was A Great Fog
Conversation Was A Fog
Death Was A Fog
Burial Was A Fog
Luke 24:13-24 MSG
13-16 That same day two of them were walking to the village Emmaus, about seven miles out of Jerusalem. They were deep in conversation, going over all these things that had happened. In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them. But they were not able to recognize who he was.
17-18 He asked, “What’s this you’re discussing so intently as you walk along?”
They just stood there, long-faced, like they had lost their best friend. Then one of them, his name was Cleopas, said, “Are you the only one in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard what’s happened during the last few days?”
19-24 He said, “What has happened?” They said, “The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene. He was a man of God, a prophet, dynamic in work and word, blessed by both God and all the people. Then our high priests and leaders betrayed him, got him sentenced to death, and crucified him. And we had our hopes up that he was the One, the One about to deliver Israel.
Everyone Responds Differently To The Fog
Thomas – Doubted
Judas – Deserted
Peter – Denied
John – Devoted
Luke 24:31
At that moment, open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized him. And then he disappeared.
The Resurrection Clears The Fog
Luke 24:46-48 TLB
46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah must suffer and die and rise again from the dead on the third day; 47 and that this message of salvation should be taken from Jerusalem to all the nations: There is forgiveness of sins for all who turn to me. 48 You have seen these prophecies come true.
1 Peter 1:3 NIV
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
Are You Ready To See Through The Fog?
Matthew 24:44 NKJV
Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
