The Fall; Adam and Eve
September 17, 2022

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Genesis 1:15-17

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’ ”
Genesis 3:1-3

And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
Genesis 3:1-3

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
Genesis 3:4-5

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked;
Genesis 3:6-7

and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Genesis 3:7-8

Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
Genesis 3:9-11

Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Genesis 3:12-13

God’s First Question:
*Where are you?*
It’s Not About Information
It’s About Adam’s Transformation

Adam’s Confession
I Heard: Acknowledgment of God
I Was Afraid: Guilt Was Discovered
I Was Naked: Effects of Sin Was Shame
I Hid Myself: Result In the Heart Was Guilt

God’s Second Question:
*“Who told you that You were naked?”*
It’s Not About His Clothes,
It’s About Conscience

who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
Romans 2:15-16

God’s Third Question:
*What is this you have done?*
It’s Not About What Adam Did
Its About What Adam Introduced

Adam Introduced:
Death (Gen 3:17)
Nakedness (Gen 3:17)
A Curse (Gen 3:14)
Sorrow (Gen 3:17)
Thorns (Gen 3:18)
Sweat (Gen 3:19)
Sword (Gen 3:24)

So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise (Break) your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Genesis 3:14-15

For if by the one man’s offense (Adam) death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation
Romans 5:17-19

even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Romans 5:17-19

The first Adam was naked and received clothes. (Genesis 3:21)
The Last Adam had clothes but was stripped naked. (Matthew 27:28)

The first Adam hid from the face of God. (Genesis 3:10)
The Last Adam begged God not to hide His face. (Matthew 27:46)

The first Adam Introduced a Curse.
The Second Adam Defeated the Curse. (Gal 3:13)

The First Adam Received Sorrow.
The Second Adam Took Our Sorrow. (Isaiah 53)

The first Adam Received Thorns.
The Second Adam Took Thorns. (John 19:5)

Where are you?
Our Reality
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

Who’s Condemning You?
Our Redemption
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31

What Will You Do?
Our Restoration
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9

God’s Not Running From You
He Is Running Toward You
