Parables – Part 1
June 25, 2022

Parables
Greek “parabole” (para-bow-LAY)
Means “to place beside, to cast alongside”

Vine’s Expository Dictionary of N.T. Words:

it “signifies a placing of one thing beside another with a view to comparison”

He Is One Fry Short Of A Happy Meal
Not The Sharpest Tool In The Shed
Not The Brightest Crayon In The Box
Few Cards Short of A Full Deck
Doesn’t Have All His Cornflakes In The Box
As Sharp As A Marble
One Quarter Short of A Roll
A Few Clowns Short of A Circus
He Is Three Blocks Behind The Parade
No Light On In The Attic

How then will you understand all the parables?

Jesus’ Most In-depth Teaching In 1 Day
He Taught 13 Parables: Every Parable Was About A Seed

My Personal Opinion Is This Is:
4 Different Types of People
4 Stages of Growth In A Believer

Matthew 13:1
On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

Mark 4:13-4
13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable?
How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word.

The Word Is The Seed
Everything On Earth Comes From Seed
There Is No Need That Isn’t Met By A Seed

Genesis 8:22
“While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

Wayside Believer

Mark 4:15
15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.

“Wayside” Ground Cure
Receive The Word
Understand The Word
HOLD ONTO THE WORD
Let It Penetrate and Change Your Heart
Protect It and Water It (It’s Your Responsibility)
It Will Produce

We Want To Align The Word To Our Heart
But You Must Align Your Heart To The Word

Stony Believer

Mark 4:16-17
16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. (KJV – immediately they are offended.)

The “Stony” Ground Cure
Receive The Word With Gladness
Root Yourself In The Word
Allow Tribulation and Persecution To Strengthen You
Don’t Become Offended By The Word
Never Give Up On The Word

The Thorny Ground Believer

Mark 4:18-19
18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word,19 and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

The “Thorny” Ground Cure
Hear The Word
Care About The Word, More Than The World
Remember, Riches Don’t Replace Righteousness
Things Don’t Come Before “Him and His Word”
Nourish The Word Comes First

Mark 4:20
20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Good Ground
Accept It
Believe It
Increasingly Bear Fruit (30-60-100)
