Red Letter Questions - Week 1

SPEAKER: Pastor Charlie Riley

Red Letter Questions – Week 1
October 2, 2021

1. Since some Bibles put what Jesus said in red, why don’t they also put what God said in red?

“Red Letters in Bibles is attributed to Louis Klopsch, owner and editor of Christian Herald Magazine. On June 19, 1899, Klopsch was writing an editorial for the magazine when he read Luke 22:20, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you” (KJV).”

In the November 1901 issue of the Christian Herald, a large advertisement offered red letter Bibles to readers. The first printing on his own press numbered 60,000 copies. These quickly sold, and the presses had to run “day and night to supply the demand.”
Klopsch wrote, “Modern Christianity is striving zealously to draw nearer to the great Founder of the Faith….This Red Letter Bible has been prepared and issued in the full conviction that it will meet the needs of the student, the worker, and the searchers after truth everywhere.”

2. I’m kinda a new believer, I’m starting to read the Bible and I’m watching your videos online. I don’t understand how Jesus died on the cross for my sins when I wasn’t even born yet. I’m sorry I don’t understand that and I so bad want to.

Revelation 13:8 NIV
8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

1 Peter 1:18-20 NIV
18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

Romans 3:21-26
21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:16-19
16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things areof God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

3. Many times Jesus performed miracles but tells people not to share what He did. Why would He tell people not to share it?

Matthew 8:3-4
Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

Jesus’s First Coming

Daniel 9:25-26
Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.26 “And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

Artaxerxes Longimanus commanded to restore Jerusalem on March 14, 445 B.C.

Sir Robert Anderson in his book The Coming Prince determined:
483 years, based on the 360-day calendar year was 173,880 days.

A 483-Year-Old Prophecy Was Fulfilled to The Day On Palm Sunday

4. John 20:7 “The cloth folded by itself”. Did Jesus do this to prove he was not finished yet?

John 20:6-8
6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.

In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, we need to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the master and servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating.
The servant would not dare touch the table until the master was finished. Now if the master was finished eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers and mouth, clean his beard, and wad up the napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, “I’m finished.”
But if the master got up from the table, folded his napkin and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because the folded napkin meant, “I’m coming back!”

5. Since we take our last breath on earth and our first in heaven can you explain why the dead rise when Jesus returns?

1 Thess 4:13-18
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

6. In John 10:16 Jesus mentions another fold. What’s or who is He talking about? I’ve heard some say He’s referencing aliens!! I do Not believe that, but I honestly do not know what He means.
