You Asked For It 2026 - You Asked For It – Week 4

SPEAKER: Pastor Charlie Riley
August 30, 2026

Q1: If God is unchanging, why do some of His commands seem different between the Old and New Testaments?

“The God of the Old Testament is a God of wrath, while the God of the New Testament is a God of love.”

This Is Simply A Misunderstanding About God’s Progressive Revelation To Mankind

Old Testament Vs. New Testament

Jesus Concealed – Jesus Revealed
God’s Plan Concealed – NT Revealed
God’s Purpose Concealed – NT Revealed

The Bible Should Be Read And Understood In Light Of Three Time Periods

The Fall To The Law Of Moses – 2500 Years
God – Grace And Faith
The Law To The Cross – 1500 Years
God – The Law
The Cross To 2026 – 2026 Year
God – Grace And Faith

God Is The Same In The
Old Testament As The New

And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,
Exodus 34:6

‘The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.’
Number 14:18

(for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.
Deuteronomy 4:31

See Also Nehemiah 9:17, Psalm 86:5, Psalm 15, 108:4, 145:8, Joel 2:13

New Testament Wrath Of God

But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
Romans 2:5

New Testament Wrath Of God

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
Romans 1:18-19

IMPORTANT!!!
THE AGE-OLD MISTAKE!!!!!

God’s Kindness, Patience, And Mercy Toward Sin Has Always Been Misunderstood As Passivity And Blessing Of Ungodliness In The Earth….

Then Mankind Is Shocked
When God Punishes Sin!

My Opinion!!!!
The New Testament Has Considerably More Judgment Than The Old Testament
One Entire Book Dedicated To Judgment
The Revelation Of Jesus Christ

Revelation 1-3
Jesus Judges The Church

Revelation 4-5
Jesus Is Worthy To Open The Scrolls

Revelation 6-16
The Seals, Trumpets And Bowls Natural Disasters, Economic Turmoil And Plagues

Revelation 19:11-16
Jesus Is The Rider On The White Horse
Judging And Making War In Righteousness, Defeating The Antichrist And The False Prophet

Revelation 20:11-15
Jesus The Great White Throne Judgment

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
Revelation 19:11

Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Revelation 19:15-16

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9

Q2: Do you believe that you can have a physical interaction or conversation with an angel?
(The angel looks human)

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.
Hebrews 13:2

Then the Lord appeared to him (Abraham) by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day. So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.
Genesis 18:1-3

Judgement of Sodom

Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.
Genesis 19:1

Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”
Genesis 19:4-5

Q3: Do We Have Guardian Angels?

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18:1-3

Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.
Matthew 18:4-5

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!
Matthew 18:6-7

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.
Matthew 18:10-11

Q4: Do you ever wonder since Adam and Eve were never kids that they were horrified when their kid’s teeth started falling out for no reason at all…or are you normal?

ADAM!!!!! What did you feed these kids???

Q5: What is the difference between Replacement theology and Fulfillment theology?

Replacement Theology And Fulfillment Theology Are Two Sides Of The Same Coin

Both Stand Principally On The Idea That Israel Has Lost Its Divine Place And Has Been Replaced By The Church

Fulfillment Theology Just Sounds “Softer”

Q6: If Job is the oldest book in the Bible, then what is the proper order of the Books in the Bible and what order should they be read?

Oldest Writings
(1500-1400 B.C.) Book Of Job
(1446-1406 B.C.) Pentateuch: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy

Early-To-Mid Monarch & Prophetic Books (1000-700 B.C.) Psalms, Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Micah

Late Old Testament And Exile
(600-400 B.C.) Daniel, Nehemiah – Malachi

Q7: As someone looking to study the Bible, I have heard you say to start with the gospels, but after getting through the New Testament, how should we study the Old Testament? Or just study the Bible in general?

How Should They Be Read?

Start With The New Testament!!!!!

The Order Of The Bible Is Chronological, With A Few Exceptions.

They Progressively Build On Each Other, Revealing Jesus To Us.

The Order Is Not As
Important As The Purpose!

What Subject Are You Studying?

Q8: Is doing a 365-Day chronological reading plan a good idea?

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
