Q1. I’ve briefly heard other believers talking about generational sin. All the research I’ve tried to do to understand what “generational sin” is has just confused me more. Really I’m not even sure how to formulate a specific question, other than to just ask is it a real thing? Are generational curses real, and if they are, how do we break them over ourselves and our children?

On One Hand, It Looks Like It
Exodus 34:6-7 (Deuteronomy 5:8-10, Leviticus 26:39)
And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

On The Other Hand
Deuteronomy 24:16 (2 Chronicles 25:3-4)
Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin.

Two Important Facts:
The Sins Of The Father Are Punished In Their Children
THROUGH BECOMING THEIR OWN SINS ALSO!
“The Iniquity of the Fathers to Their Children”
When You Accept Christ You Are Set Free From Your Families’ Curses By The Blood of Christ!

1 Peter 1:18-19
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

John 8:36
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Q2. It has been stated over and over again in the Bible what Jesus’ purpose on earth was. It has also been stated that if the devil knew Jesus’ death would defeat him, he would’ve tried to stop it. The devil knows the Bible.
My question is: how did he not know that Jesus’ death would defeat him when it’s stated in the Bible multiple times and when it has been prophesied for thousands of years? Wouldn’t the devil get a clue?

1 John 3:8
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

1 Corinthians 2:8
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Church Fathers In The 1600’s Likened It To A Fish Hook

The Fish Hook Symbolism: Rufinus
[The purpose of the incarnation] was that the divine virtue of the Son of God might be like a kind of hook hidden beneath the form of human flesh…to lure on the prince of this world to a contest; that the Son might offer him his human flesh as a bait and that the divinity which lay underneath might catch him and hold him fast with its hook.

His contemporary Gregory of Nyssa said that the devil, “like a greedy fish, …swallow[ed] the Godhead like a fish hook along with the flesh which was the bait.” Jesus’ body is the bait, but inside him is the divine nature which is the hook. Once the devil swallows God, he is in real trouble. He cannot digest or defeat God’s eternal life.

Augustine Supported The Fish-hook Idea But Likened It To A Mousetrap
“The devil jumped for joy when Christ died; and by the very death of Christ the devil was overcome: he took, as it were, the bait in the mousetrap…The Lord’s cross was the devil’s mousetrap: the bait which caught him was the death of the Lord.”

Revelation 12:12
Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.

Q3. Where do I start when I want to spread the word of God to others?

The Who
Relationship, Relationship, Relationship
Family – Friends – Co-Workers – Acquaintances

1 Corinthians 9:19-23
For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.

Q4. Can I pray for the Lord to wash away someone else’s sins?

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace (God’s Part) you have been saved through faith (Your Part), and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Romans 10:9-10
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

What We Can Do!

Numbers 16:46-48
So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the Lord. The plague has begun.” Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped.

Ezekiel 22:23
“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God.
